"And for years the residents of the nearby villages remembered the mysterious green glow coming from the charred trees they collected near the Ground Zero."
-- "The truth about the range of death", an article on the Totsky nuclear test conducted by the Soviets, extensively quoted (directly and through other sources derived from it) by both English and Russian Wikipedia pages.
Update (September 19, 2012):
I have just read about Cherenkov radiation which I had no clue about before. Turns out radioactive things do cause glowing sometimes. What an idiot I am to dismiss the very thought of some claim without any reasoning just "because it sounds ridiculous and not scientific". And yet I am still being confident that the excerpt is yellow press bullshit.
